A knowledgeable staff and helpful too.
This is definitely one of the better small town Libraries on North Missouri, with a Friendly staff, newer building, comfortable reading/sitting areas, and decent selection. To a large extent, the Gentry county library in Stanberry is a living legacy of Aletha Whittington, the friendly, caring librarian who worked 37 years, supporting her community from 1956 to 1993. For most of that time, the library was located just down the block in an older white building. After her retirement, Aletha donated much of her savings to start funding for a new library (also funded by people from the area) which she saw open in 2001.
Next time you are passing through town, take 20 minutes to stop in to relax and enjoy a little time North of the square on Park street, whether you are a long time resident or visiting for the day.
The current library staff includes Judy Garrett, Lana Smith, Pam Osborn, and Brenda Newman who all continue that same spirit of helpful caring that Aletha was well known for. In recent years, when many towns or counties are scraping by & cutting budgets, people near Stanberry are fortunate to have such a nice library.
